  • as a huge lover of birds, 90% of the concern against wind turbines being used for energy is literally just pro fossil fuel propaganda. birds ARE at a risk however there is a lot of strategies even as simple as painting one of the blades that reduces a lot of accidental deaths. additionally renewable energy sources will do more in favor of the environment that would positively impact birds (and all of us). one study found over one million bird deaths from wind turbines. while that is a shockingly high number and we should work to drastically shrink it, at least 1.3 billion birds die to outdoor cats on a yearly basis. it was never about caring about birds

  • there was a study done in 2015 that shows an even greater possible yearly divide than the 2012 one

  • Tumblr users like their cats tho. They aren't going to restrict their little fur babies to the inside of their house.

  • People who like cats should keep their cats primarily inside! It protects your own cats from disease, infestations of fleas or similar parasites, predators, other cats….and if your cat isn’t fixed, you’re preventing a new (likely multiple) generation of cats from living their lives feral outdoors. However, it is safe for cats and wildlife to bring them out on a leash or in a catio / enclosed area!

Turns out the British public has more positive views of lgbt people than the British media would suggest. Cis lesbians are tied with cis bisexual for expressing the most supportive views on trans people

  • Article date: August 11, 2023

    Some encouraging news.

Really glad they did this research - especially because YouGov is a credible, well-regarded, and fairly accurate pollster. They're one of the most prominent polling organizations in the UK. So it's not like just anyone is giving these numbers - you can have a fair amount of confidence in them.

Given British media and assholes online, I definitely would not have called that cis lesbians and cis bisexuals are tied for most supportive of trans people. Very, very nice to hear.

  • transphobes are a very loud but very small group. don't lose hope. don't give up. don't stop fighting. more people support you than you realize.

  • Is it weird to drink the water from your bathroom sink? (e.g. filling up a cup or water bottle)

No? Tap water is tap water

Yes wtf. It's the bathroom. Gross

I have never thought about this before and have no idea how to answer

    Conflicted/Nuance in the tags

Feel free to reblog etc. I'm asking because my roommate had a weirdly shameful response to doing this the other day, and I was like ?????? It's a tap.

  • it is absolutely asinine the type of shitty, shitty products American specialty footwear companies will put on the market and boast about on their websites. like you fuckin idiots, your “top-of-the line quality!” boot has only 20 reviews on it and they all say that the damn things literally fall apart at the seams on the first or second wear!!!

Noticed something a little funky in the world around you and want to figure out what's up? Especially if there might be something you ought to be doing about it? Not sure what information sources to trust these days? If you're in the US, federal agencies like NOAA, USGS, EPA and more collect massive amounts of scientific data every day, much of which is publicly available online - if you know where to look.

A PDF version with clickable links is available for free on my itchio page (quakeandquiver); I'll add a direct link in a reblog.
